The $14 Martini Worth $7,500

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend and adding a Martini to that equation makes that friendship a whole lot friendlier. At least that’s what BOND restaurant and lounge at The Langham, Boston hopes. The venue debuted its spring cocktail menu at the beginning of April, and on the menu is The Statement Martini. For $14, one lucky guest could walk away with a pair of $7,500 diamond earrings.

When a guest orders The Statement (Ketel One, watermelon liqueur and orange juice), she (or he) receives a diamond, which may be the real thing or a fake. After enjoying the cocktail, the guest takes the “diamond” to the Shreve, Crump & Low jewelry store at the corner of Boylston and Berkeley Streets to see if it is the one real diamond. If it is, that person wins a pair of Martini-set diamond earrings valued at $7,500 from the jeweler, which is BOND’s partner in the promotion. The promotion will end once a winner claims his or her earrings and/or when the last diamond is distributed, says Julie Shamrock, communications manager for the hotel.

The Statement Martini

To spread the word about the Martini, staff will promote The Statement when speaking with guests; it also is explained on the cocktail menu and the hotel is conducting media outreach with local advertising.

Shamrock notes that promotion is a great way to showcase the seasonal drink offerings.  “We hope to draw attention to our new cocktail menu for the spring and summer and hopefully one of our guests will get a beautiful pair of earrings for trying the drink,” she says.

The Statement is just one of BOND’s new spring/summer cocktails (all cleverly named with financial terms, as the hotel is housed in the former Federal Reserve Bank building). Others include The Equity Martini (Oxley gin, vanilla simple syrup, grapefruit juice and caramelized grapefruit), The Getaway Martini (Belvedere Vodka, Navan, Chambord and pineapple juice), the Baby Face Nelson (Cold River Blueberry, St-Germain, lemonade and soda water) and the John Dillinger (Patron Silver, simple syrup, mint leaves, lemon wedges and lemon-lime soda).
