Manhattan, London Host Cocktail Events

Manhattan Cocktail Classic logoAfter 2,000 people attend a two-day “preview” event last October, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic is set for its official launch this May. Tickets went on sale last week for the Classic, which is being coined New York City’s “first multi-day event celebrating the history, contemporary culture and artful craft of the cocktail.” In fact, some of the smaller events sold out instantly. Seminars will include the role of Curaçao in cocktails, an examination of “monk-inspired” cocktails, a session on “Bar Myth Busters” and a variety of panels regarding cocktails, Cognac, tequila, Sherry, mezcal and more. The five-day event kicks off with a gala party at NYC’s main Public Library, and makes its way through most of the city’s best-known cocktail-centric bars. Not to be outdone by upstart Yanks, UK bartenders have London Cocktail Week to look forward to from Oct. 11 – 17  (www.LondonCocktailWeek.com). Simon Difford says details for this event include a launch party Oct. 11; “Drinks Jamborees” for vodka and gin on Monday, tequila on Tuesday, liqueurs and specialties on Wednesday and whisk(e)y on Thursday; and the Rum & Cane Spirit Festival Oct, 16-17). The week will end with CLASS Awards on Sunday evening Oct. 17.
