bourbonThe Bardstown Bourbon Co. LLC, a new business, plans to open a $24.8 million distillery in Bardstown.

The 45,000-square-foot distillery will be located on 100 acres in the Nelson County Industrial Park, according to a news release. It will produce bourbon and other spirits, using local ingredients. A visitors center and warehouses also are planned, the release said.

“The Bardstown Bourbon Co. will be a celebration of the Bardstown community, from the local ingredients we use to produce our product and the team that designs and builds our distillery, to the employees that distill, barrel and store our bourbons,” David Mandell, president and CEO of The Bardstown Bourbon Co., said in the release. “It was the people and community of Bardstown that attracted us. We are here today because of the exceptionally strong leadership at both the state and local levels, and we want to thank these leaders for their tremendous work.”

In addition to being a tourist stop, there also will be a culinary dimension to the distillery. The company plans to partner with restaurants in the community to incorporate local flavors.
