Happy World Cocktail Day, the only bar holiday that rivals World Bartender Day in importance. Besides the obvious – delicious cocktails – do you know why we celebrate World Cocktail Day? It’s because today, way back in 1806, The Oxford Dictionary defined and published one of the most magical words in our lexicon: cocktail.
“Cocktail (noun): An alcoholic drink consisting of a spirit or several spirits mixed with other ingredients, such as fruit juice, lemonade, or cream,” read the entry on May 13, 1806.
The definition has remained, just like our love for the subject of today’s incredible holiday. To celebrate World Cocktail Day properly, consider drink specials, creating signature cocktails, and any other ideas you can think of to honor the spirited concoctions that mean so much to us all.
Cheers!
