A Look at Father's Day Dining Habits in the On-Premise

Restaurant technology platform Toast recently released data on dining behaviors on Father's Day.

While Mother's Day may be one of the biggest days of the year for bars and restaurants, don't discount dear old dad! In fact, Toast found that bars and restaurants can expect greater-than-normal traffic and profits on Father's Day based on last year's figures:

  • Same-store Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) at full-service restaurants on Father's Day 2024 was 30% higher than the average Sunday in 2024
  • The average ticket size was 20% higher than the average Sunday
  • There were 9% more transactions on Father's Day 2024 than the average Sunday

While guests typically toast to Mom at brunch on Mother's Day, many choose to celebrate dad over hearty lunch and dinner entrees:

  • Steak orders increased by 66% compared to the average Sunday, the top choice for Father's Day
  • BBQ orders jumped 55% and pizza orders rose 47%
  • Seafood sales saw a 44% increase and pasta sales rose by 36%

When it comes to imbibing on Father's Day, most guests swap out their wine glass for a pint glass:

  • Beer sales were up by 19% on Father's Day 2024 compared to the average Sunday
  • Restaurant guests drank 10% more beer on Father's Day in 2024 than on Mother's Day, while wine sales dropped 25% on Father's Day compared to Mother's Day
  • Gin orders rose 23%, rum saw a 12% bump, and even vodka made a 5% gain.
