One Bar's Answer to Health Care Reform

In the midst of the H1N1 craze, and as flu season gears into full swing, London Lennies decided to give bar patrons a taste of their medicine. “We have been a part of the Queens community in New York City for nearly 50 years, and we have seen a lot happen during that time. So we wanted to poke a little fun at the media craze surrounding this year’s flu season,” says Leslie Barnes, owner of London Lennies. “The ‘Flu Shot’ menu is basically a special ‘Flu Shot’ oyster shooter we created using tequila, a gazpacho medley of fresh herbs, vegetables and lime juice. We also have an accompanying appetizer of three bite-size crab cakes called the ‘Crabcake Cure.’ Our guests get to escape the doom and gloom of flu season headlines and get a tasty dose of flu-fighting zinc, and our staff has an opportunity to have some fun with our customers and each other.”

The promotion launched Oct. 9 and will run until February 2010. The management is monitoring and measuring feedback by surveying customers who come in, and the local media also ran a story on the promotion.
