Welcome to the SKAMily!

DJ Name: DJ Irene

The dance music world is one of escapism. People come out to dance to forget the life dramas that wear on their souls, or to be a little more glamorous than they are during the day. The DJs who are loved the most are those who provide moments of beauty, clarity, inspiration, and hope that everything will be alright and beautiful. This is why DJ Irene is America’s most beloved DJ.

The cult of DJ Irene began at Hollywood mega-club Arena. Here, her DJ and life dramas played out publicly on the dance floor and through her performing. This only made people love her more and helped her to see how she could give back by leading a positive life through music.

“At one point I realized that I am not just playing records to the same people every weekend. These people care about me, more than I care for myself,” says DJ Irene. “I knew I had to make them proud by being proud of myself, by taking care of myself, by being the best.”

DJ Irene is not just another girl DJ. She doesn’t perform while topless and she doesn’t smile coquettishly or seductively for the cameras. DJ Irene didn’t just start mixing 3 to 5 years ago when it became “cool.” DJ Irene is DJ culture in all its brazen, globetrotting, mythic womanizing, beat-banging, trend-raising and trend-killing glory. She is rock star royalty, daring all who challenged her to step up.

“Yeah, great – there are lots of girl DJs. So what? I was a girl DJ too, now I’m the king. I am the queen, I am the DJ diva. Let’s see how many of them can hang like me. Let’s see.”

If you consider yourself knowledgeable about the DJ world but haven’t seen DJ Irene yet, you haven’t seen one of the most entertaining and engaging DJs in the business. Find out where she will be at next and don’t let anything stop you from getting there.

DJ Irene - Nightclub & Bar Meet the SKAM Artist

When did you join the SKAM Artist roster? What did it feel like to join SKAM?

A few years ago with Michelle Levy. It feels great to be with SKAM. There is so much diversity of music with SKAM. SKAM Artist has the best staff with so much energy and innovative perspectives. Sujit’s way of marketing and his dedication… He is the man!

What genres of music are your specialties?

I don’t like to pigeonhole my genre of music. I have always been able to play many styles of music, as long as it has great energy.

What’s something you’re known for as an artist/DJ?

My energy that borders on INSANITY. And, of course, my laugh.

Please list some of your favorite recent gigs, and why they were favorites.

That’s an unfair question because there are an abundance of great clubs and festivals that I have performed at. For example, Lizard Lounge in Dallas has such an insane energy that makes my set so brilliant, along with BETA from Denver, Posh in Albuquerque, Gypsy Bar in Phoenix, AZ, Kandyland in Seattle… I’ve just recently played in San Francisco at the DNA Lounge (Prince performed here prior to his stardom and becoming one of the greatest artist icons). That show inspired my new tour: “Go HARD or Go HOME.” The fans were all about the DJ Irene Hard House! Closer to home, The Abbey is always amazing. Plus, of course, Arena and Circus Nightclub in Hollywood, CA, will always have a special place in my heart.

Besides DJing, what other projects are you currently working on?

We are currently promoting my “Go HARD or Go HOME” tour which will consist of “DJ Irene Hard House” in conjunction with my production of hard house tracks that will be released for this tour. Plus, I have been busy writing my first original album (different step from the usual DJ Irene music). I’m consistently working on remixes for a variety of artists.

When performing, what types of bar and nightlife venues do you prefer?

Everything!

What is your beverage of choice?

Diet Red Bull and water.

What advice would you give someone who wants to get noticed by SKAM Artist?

BLOW UP YOUR BRAND! Marketing is important – consistently have music available to download, social media must be on point, and don’t try to sound like all the others DJs. BE UNIQUE!

What’s the biggest challenge you face as a DJ?

A question I find a little vague, although I do sometimes anticipate that the sound system at every single gig is working in excellent condition. I have a real distaste for equipment issues!
