America's Beer Distributors Raise a Glass to Tavern Month

Throughout May, America's 2,850 licensed, independent beer distributors are recognizing Tavern Month, which celebrates the many licensed bars and taverns that provide hundreds of thousands of jobs to hardworking men and women and responsibly enrich America's social culture.

"It's an American tradition to gather with friends or colleagues to enjoy a cold beer in a local bar or tavern," said Craig Purser, president of the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA). "America's licensed beer distributors proudly work hand-in-hand with licensed retailers - like bars and taverns - to safely provide consumers with the largest variety of styles, flavors and labels of beer anywhere in the world. Beer distributors and taverns are key components of the state-based, three-tier system for alcohol control in the United States, which works to ensure only consumers of legal drinking age receive only fresh, safe beer and that consumers are served in moderation."

"Like beer distributors, bars and taverns are family-owned or independent operations that provide solid jobs in communities across the country and preserve the American culture of small business opportunity," said Harry Wiles, executive director of the American Beverage Licensees (ABL). "This May we are excited to highlight the American tavern and those consumers of legal drinking age who enjoy taverns safely and responsibly."

Bar and tavern owners work together with beer distributors in communities in every state to provide responsible service and sales. Beer distributors and tavern owners support server training programs, ID checks and the effective state-based system of alcohol controls.
