The North Miami Police Department is asking for any information in the investigation of the murder of model Paula Sladewski, who was last seen leaving Miami’s popular nightclub Space. Police released a composite sketch of the man witnesses say escorted Sladewski away from the club. The club’s surveillance system captured her leaving the venue at 7:21 a.m. in the company of two club bouncers. Less than 14 hours later, her body was discovered burned in a Dumpster barely a dozen miles from the club. The North Miami Police Department asks anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
San Jose’s City Council revised a decision that gave the chief of police the authority to pull entertainment permits from venues with repeated violations or violent incidents. After Chief Rob Davis closed WET Nightclub following a drunken brawl that ended up on the Internet, club owner Michael Hamod filed a suit in Federal Court claiming the city's entertainment ordinance was unconstitutionally arbitrary and unclear. The federal court dismissed the suit, saying it should have been filed at the state level. Hamod declined to pursue the case after reaching an agreement with the city to re-open the club, but the city council revised the ordinance anyway to change some of the wording. The council also is working with local club owners to keep San Jose nightlife safer. "I think the direction is great," Hamod told the Mercury News. "The city is doing a great job of putting everyone together and getting everybody's input."
Manchester became the first Northern England city to win a Purple Flag, which is an award given by the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) to recognize cities with safe, vibrant nightlife. The award is given to cities in the UK that create safe, enjoyable and responsible nightlife for their residents and visitors. In a press release, city spokesman Pat Karney noted: “Manchester is widely regarded both nationally and internationally as a fantastic city for nightlife. This accolade is further welcome acknowledgement that we lead the way when it comes to vibrant nights out with a huge choice of venues and a real buzz." A purple flag now hangs in the city to denote the award.
