Around the Scene: March 4, 2010

Congratulations to Scott Sartiano and Richie Akiva, who last weekend opened their newest venture in Sartiano’s hometown: Charlotte, N.C. Butter NC follows the successful formula the pair has used in New York at venues like 1Oak and the original Butter. Nicky Hilton, Black Eyed Peas front-woman Fergie and Lindsey Lohan’s former spinning squeeze DJ Jus Ske were all present for the big bash, setting the tone for the upscale feel the pair hopes to bring to North Carolina nightlife.

Las Vegas’ Hawaiian Tropic Zone at the Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops is officially closed. After two years of trying to be a tourist dining scene during the daytime and evening hours then transitioning to nightlife after the sun set, HTZ is shutting down as further nightclub saturation on The Strip continues to make the nightlife scene even more competitive. No word yet on what’s going in the space, although representatives note it will be a new venue with a new management team.
