MIAMI (May 2009) -- The BACARDI family of rum brands received enormous recognition at the 2009 Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition held May 14-15 in Miami where BACARDI was recognized for its famous blends and the time honored aroma, taste, body and finish of its rums.

The prestigious Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition is an annual event at which sugar cane spirits are evaluated by a panel of judges with expertise within the industry. The competition brought together 65 brands from more than 20 rum producing countries to evaluate what is known as one of the most diverse distilled spirits.

A Gold medal was awarded to BACARDI® 8, a highly respected blend of rums aged a minimum of 8 years.  This special rum has a smooth, rich flavor and for eight generations was available only for the pleasure of the Bacardí family.  Also taking home Gold medal was BACARDI® Reserva Limitada.  Blended from the rarest rums that have been aged 10 to 16 years, it is available only at the Casa BACARDI® store in Cataño, Puerto Rico, The BACARDI Store in Nassau, Bahamas and through fine wine and spirits retailers in the Cayman Islands and Aruba.  BACARDI Reserva Limitada has a smooth velvety finish, making it a delicacy.  A third Gold medal was presented to BACARDI® Select, the original mixable premium rum, which is a blend of rums mellowed up to four years and is noted for its reddish hue.

In 1862 in the city of Santiago de Cuba, Don Facundo Bacardí revolutionized the spirits industry by creating the world’s first light-bodied rum.  Since then, the proprietary techniques set forth by Don Facundo have been passed down through seven generations of his family which has sustained Don Facundo’s innovative spirit to produce BACARDI, the best-selling and most awarded rum in the world.
