Fight One: Former boxer and 40-plus Hard Rock Hotel gaming host Steve Cyr edged out Elite Gym’s John Paul Roberts in a three-round draw, much to the ire of the crowd, which booed the Fight Club’s elder statesmen on his home property.
Fight Two: Body English’s Daouda Leonard had a significant size advantage over replacement fighter and Poetry Nightclub DJ Andy Gil, who stepped in to replace another fighter. While his heart was in the right place, his lack of training time led to Leonard’s victory.
Fight Three: Another host property fighter, Justin Crews from Body English, took on Blush Nightclub marketing man Sal Wise, who came up with the upset victory.
Fight Four: Syrup Swimwear front man John Thomason came into his fight versus Hard Rock casino marketing host Nick Manteris hoping to replicate his success from Fight Club’s premier installment, but it was not to be. Manteris finished this fight in the first round, one of the evening’s quickest matches.
Fight Five: Local club promoter John Taylor from J&H took on PURE Management Group VIP Host Carlos Harper, who seemed to have a hard time remembering his training once the bell rang and allowed Taylor to take home a TKO victory.
Fight Six: Prive Nightclub VIP host Stephan Edsali took on local investor Dave Murtha and left with the victory.
Fight Seven: TAO Nightclub VIP bottle-pusher Cesar Salas took on Body English door host Eric Noe in one of the most active three-round battles. By the end of the third round, both boxers appeared pretty gassed, but Salas was rightfully given the decision by delivering more damage in the fight.
Fight Eight: Rehab bartender Cortney Bond took on Hot Rod Grill bartender Caitlin Mercer in a furious battle that went back and forth but left Mercer with her hand raised at the end of the match.
Fight Nine: One of the most anticipated bouts of the night pitted former Studio 54 doorman and now Body English VIP Host Jon Opas against his old boss, MGM Grand director of nightlife Anthony Olheiser. While Opas came out swinging for the fences, the taller and more agile Olheiser was quicker on his toes and left the ring with the three-round decision.
Fight Ten: Dos Caminos bartender Mike La Penna kicked off the heavyweight portion of the fight card in a tight battle with hulking Blush Nightclub host Fidel Osuna. While the muscular La Penna was favored because of his past boxing experience, it was Osuna who left with the decision.
Fight Eleven: Spearmint Rhino bar manager Mark Alums defeated Cathouse director of VIP services Jeff Glass. Alums had taken his training very seriously, sparring six-round matches with a fresh boxer each round and giving up drinking for several months prior to the fight. His training paid off, as Alums defeated Glass.
Fight Twelve: Bank Nightclub security manager Mike Cirullo defeated Hard Rock Hotel nightlife guru and event organizer Greg Costello. “I thought I delivered some great punches, but I respect the judge’s decision,” Costello humbly notes. These two will fight again in November as the Light Group versus Body English saga continues.
