Leblon Cachaca Hosts NYC March to Legalize Cachaca

New York, NY — On September 14th, Leblon Cachaca will host a friendly march in NYC as part of a national awareness campaign to Legalize Cachaca, celebrating Brazil's Independence by hosting celebrations to recognize Cachaca as it owns category and not as a Brazilian Rum. Celebration marches are occurring this week in 10 cities throughout the United States, including Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, and Boston.  Each city will lead a celebratory march through various neighborhoods and stop at key bars and restaurants for tastings, cocktail specials and Brazilian good times.

With the popularity of Cachaca and the explosive growth of its signature Caipirinha cocktail, the attention to the cause has never been greater. As popular support mounts, the U.S. government's TTB is reported to be in the process of recognizing Cachaca as a distinctive type of spirit like Cognac and Champagne.  Cachaca will be defined as a product unique to Brazil, and the descriptor Brazilian Rum will be eliminated from Cachaca labeling as a requirement.

For whatever reason, the U.S. is the only country in the world which makes the Brazilians label their Cachaca as Brazilian Rum, said Naren Young of BOBO. Just like Cognac, Champagne, and Tequila, Cachaca has its own unique character, culture, and history, and the Brazilians deserve to have their national spirit recognized by its national name: Cachaca.

Legalize Cachaca is our mantra, says Steve Luttman from Leblon Cachaca.  Come join us for some fun, have some Caipirinhas, and lets stop calling this stuff Rum!
