In honor of their friend and colleague, Kyle McHugh, members of the New Orleans Bartenders Guild will host a benefit at Cure (4905 Freret St.) on Monday, Oct. 5 from 6-10 p.m. One-hundred percent of each Sazerac cocktail and Sazerac Rye purchased during the event will go toward McHugh’s medical fund, and bartenders are donating all of their tips from the evening.
McHugh is a USBG member, spirits vendor and industry leader, participating in the cocktail apprentice program at the 2009 Tales of the Cocktail. Later that month, he was treated for a low platelet count and internal bleeding at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Although he’s back to work at his liquor store and recovering well, he is uninsured and has $30,000 in medical bills to pay.
