New menus and new bar openings continue in New York City even as the end of the year nears. Justin Noel of Contemporary Cocktails has teamed up with Jacques Ouari to open 1534, a below-ground bar focused on serving cocktails inspired by France and its colonies. Drinks are organized by region: from the Americas, Code Noir (Pineau des Charantes, rye, peach bitters, Angostura bitters and lemon oil); from French Polynesia, Colonial Vacation (Calvados, East India Sherry, Velvet Falernum, fresh lime juice, and Demerara sugar, topped with Blue Mountain Coffee and Whiskey Barrel Bitters); and from Africa, Foreign Legion Punch (Chai Red Bush tea, VS Cognac, fresh lemon juice, Demerara syrup, black cherry preserves).
SNAP Sports Bar and Grille has opened with a drink menu of classics (Salty Dog, Pimm’s Cup, Stinger) and signatures including the Tip-Top Turn (gin, Campari, dry vermouth, triple sec, grapefruit juice) and Gotham's Mash (rum, mint, cucumber, simple syrup and soda). Justin McManus oversees the program.
