Venerable beer bar Max's Taphouse in Fells Point, Md., known for its eclectic beer list and knowledgeable staff, will draw a crowd this week as it opens its beer vault and invites patrons to sample draft beers that are the most rare, unusual and hard to find. These beers will be featured Wednesday, June 24 - Friday, June 26 only; no cover will be charged and samples will be served.
“We will be featuring a tremendous cross section of beers from Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Scotland, England, Belgium, Canada, United States, Germany and Austria," says cellarman Casey Hard. Most of the beers are extremely hard to find in bottles but we are featuring them all on draft. Twenty of these very special brews will be featured daily.” Hard and his team are encouraging loyal Max’s guests to visit — but make sure they get there early. “Come join us early to experience the drafts of your choice, as these kegs are small and limited. Because of the rarity, these [rare and obscure beers] will go quickly.”
Among the featured beers will be: BFM Abbey De Saint Bon Chien 2007 (Switzerland), Harviestoun Ola Dubh 40 Year (Cask) (Scotland), Hopfenstark Ostalgia Blonde (Canada), Nogne O Imperial Stout (Denmark), Hitachino XH (Japan) Del Borgo Rubus/Lamboni (Italy), De Dochter Van De Korenaar Emblasse (Belgium), Christoffel Nobel (Netherlands), Allagash Confluence (United States), JW Lees Harvest Ale 2008 (England), Prof Briem 1809 Berliner Weisse (Germany) and Hofstetten Honigs Bock (Austria).
