An inspection by Greensboro, N.C., police found 17 security guards at three area nightclubs working without proper licensing and violating several other state laws during the last weekend in April. The routine inspections coincided with a rash of violent incidents in recent weeks that left one club-goer dead and another two in the hospital, including one patron who was assaulted by a nightclub security guard.
In North Carolina, anyone working within a security-related function must either be a stated employee of the venue or possess a license from the N.C. Private Protective Services Board, which includes nightclub bouncers and security staff. While security personnel were found not properly licensed at both Bentley’s and Club Inferno, the latter being the place where one patron was severely injured by a bouncer after an altercation in the club’s basement last week, the biggest violator was adult entertainment venue Sugar Bare Lost Dimensions. Police additionally charged two security personnel there with being armed, which also is illegal, and another with possession and intent to distribute marijuana.
