Bartenders rarely play it by the book. Their freelancing nature is what brings about the original creations we enjoy on a nightly basis. As part of World Cocktail Week, NOCCPS and Cure have partnered to host Bartending by the Book where we will hold mixologists to the recipes found in the world’s greatest cocktail books. Cure’s award-winning mixologists will be working from Stanley Clisby Arthur’s Famous New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ’Em to create four classics by the book.
The featured cocktails will be the St. Charles Punch, the Daiquiri Cocktail, the Stinger, and the Vieux Carré Cocktail. Proceeds will benefit the Museum of the American Cocktail and the New Orleans Culinary and Cultural Preservation Society.
World Cocktail Week will be celebrated this year from May 6-15 with fundraising events planned in cities around the world. Join us at Cure for Bartendering by the Book as we participate in this worldwide effort.
World Cocktail Week was established to promote better understanding and appreciation of the art of the cocktail and its history, and responsible drinking. The date commemorates the first definition of the term Cocktail in print in the 1806 edition of The Balance and Columbian Repository. The WCW fundraiser also raises much needed revenue to help pay for museum operating costs throughout the year and for our mixology series.
Tales of the Cocktail’s Sazerac Cocktail Academy
Take a sip of history
Thursday, May 20, 2010
5pm – 7pm
Sazerac Restaurant at The Roosevelt Hotel
New Orleans is no stranger to the cocktail, where enjoying a drink is a civic pastime for locals and visitors alike. Though many drinks can call New Orleans home, the one that stands above the rest, embodying the history and character of our city is the Sazerac, the Official Cocktail of the City of New Orleans.
Join us in your best Southern attire at the Sazerac Restaurant, located next to the legendary Sazerac Bar, for the Sazerac Cocktail Academy. Learn the drink’s storied history and how to make your own, so you can spread the story to others in an effort to preserve its history as an official Sazeractivist.
Tickets are $35 per person inclusive of tax and tip. Price includes dinner at the Sazerac Restaurant, hands-on Sazerac making, Sazeractivist certificate and more prizes.
To RSVP, call (504) 648-1200 or e-mail Jennifer Rivolo at Jennifer.Rivolo@hilton.com.
