Continuing as the official charity of the VIBE Conference, Children of Restaurant Employees (CORE) hosted an incredibly successful silent auction. The 2016 conference attendees proved they were generously committed to Give Back to Our Own. Those who attend VIBE seek to increase the amount of funds raised for CORE each conference, and this year was no different.
The total raised during the 2016 VIBE Conference for CORE was a stunning $203,000, $88,000 more than last year.
The objective of CORE, a 501(c) (3) charitable organization funded by donations from industry operators, suppliers, and distributors, is to benefit the community of both full- and part-time foodservice/hospitality employees who are the lifeblood of our industry. Created by a small group of operators and suppliers in 2004, CORE has helped children all across the country. Every cent of the funds raised is used to fulfill a variety of needs and wishes for children of the hospitality industry’s workforce. Their charter directs that funds raised are to be used to support the “wishes” of children of restaurant employees who have been affected or afflicted by life-altering circumstances or life-threatening illnesses, so that they may achieve their dreams while enduring heartbreaking personal battles. CORE accepts referrals and applications for support of these children and their families via their website, COREgives.org. Once chosen, each sponsored child and family is assigned an “aunt” or “uncle” (selected from the CORE Board of Directors) who then communicates with them and facilitates logistics and supplemental support.
