Dogfish Head Tap Takeover Featuring Namaste at Tumanas Tap & Grill

Tuman’s hosts Delaware’s Dogfish Head brewery and showcases five of the brewery’s beers, including Namaste, the brewery’s Belgian-style white ale tapped on “Randall,” a double-chamber filter system connected to the tap which allows the alcohol in the beer to strip the flavor of the spices, fruits, whole leaf hops, coffee, herbs (or other) that are placed in the chamber. The Randall was invented by Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione in 2002 and is trademarked to the brewery. The Randall is only used for special events locally, so this is a chance to try a unique spin on Namaste – the Randall chamber will be filled with flavor-enhancing kiwifruit and strawberries for the August 18 tap takeover.

Other limited and seasonal brews include 2015 Kvasir, an Ancient Ale that has been discontinued by the brewery and is extremely hard to find; Festina Peche, a Berliner Weisse-style summer seasonal; and Alternate Takes #1 an extremely limited imperial IPA from the Alternate Takes Series.  90 Minute IPA, a year-round brewed with the continuous-hopping method, completes the lineup.

There is no cover charge to attend and beers range from $6-$8 each. The beers will be tapped at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 and the Dogfish Head crew will be on-hand from 7-10 p.m. Food specials for the night include Spicy Stuffed Cherry Bomb Peppers, spicy Nichols Farm & Orchard Cherry Bomb peppers stuffed with goat cheese ($2 each).

Beer Information/Tasting Notes

2015 Kvasir, Ancient Ale, Rare/Discontinued, 10% ABV
A re-created Ancient Ale; the recipe was developed with the help of bio-molecular archaeologist Dr. Patrick McGovern, who analyzed chemical, botanical and pollen evidence from a 3,500-year-old Danish drinking vessel made of birch bark. The vessel analysis showed wheat, lingonberries, cranberries, myrica gale, yarrow, honey and birch syrup, which are all incorporated in this unique Ancient Ale. Aromas of sweet honey with clover-like herbs and juicy berries; tart and sour with honey sweetness and strong berry flavors.

Festina Peche, Berliner Weisse-Style Beer, Seasonal, 4.5% ABV

Refreshing summer sipper fermented with peaches. Pale straw color with slight to medium haziness and light carbonation.  Bright peach aroma (pits and fuzzy rinds); Moderate to strong tartness with a slightly sweet finish from the peaches.

Namaste, WitBier, Year-Round, 4.8% ABV (on Randall)

Thirst-quenching Belgian-style white beer made with dried organic orange slices, fresh-cut lemongrass and a bit of coriander. Poured on Randall with fresh kiwifruit and strawberries; the light-bodied Witbier shows flavors of the added fresh fruit.

Alternate Takes #1, Imperial IPA, Alternate Take Series, Extremely Limited, 7.8% ABV

Double IPA brewed with Centennial, Warrior and Idaho 7 hops. Aromas of tropical fruits, peaches, apricots and herbal/green tea. Flavors of tropical fruits and apricot with a neutral malt backbone and slight sweetness.

90 Minute IPA, Year-Round, 9.0% ABV

Brewed with the continuous-hopping method and dry hopped. Heavy pine and citrus hop aromas with flavors of brandied fruitcake, raisins and citrus. Full and malty with slightly lingering bitterness.
